About

What Neo is

Neo is a mobile personal finance app with three products:

  1. Spending. An everyday account for paying and sending money to other people.
  2. Savings. An account for most of your money, protected by stronger checks than Spending.
  3. Investing. Ready-made portfolios of US stocks and ETFs that Neo buys and keeps balanced for you.

All balances are in US dollars.

Who it's for

People outside the US who want to invest in US companies and can't do it easily today.

A local broker may not offer US stocks. The minimums or fees may be too high for small amounts. Opening a foreign brokerage account may take paperwork they can't complete. Neo needs none of this. You can start with a few dollars.

Your account

When you signup, you're prompted to log-in or register with an email.

After that, you're prompted to create 3 "keys":

  • Your phone: a key in its secure chip, unlocked with your face.
  • Your email: a key held by a provider, unlocked with a code sent to you.
  • Your cloud backup: a key saved in your own iCloud or Google account.

Note: you'll never create any Keypair and you'll never need a secret key.

Recovery

Lost your phone? Install Neo on a new phone, enter the code sent to your email, and sign in to your iCloud or Google account. You can spend again within minutes. Savings unlocks after your waiting period (48 hours by default). If someone else started the recovery, you get an alert and can cancel it during that wait.

Lost your email or cloud account? Replace it from your phone. Everything keeps working in the meantime.

Freeze

If your phone is stolen, any one of your keys can freeze the account. Spending stops and every pending payment is cancelled. Unfreezing waits your Security Hold, so a thief can't undo it.

Inheritance

Name the people who should get your account if you die or become incapacitated, and how many of them must agree. They can take over only after a long waiting period, and you can cancel at any point during it.

Custody

Neo doesn't hold your money. Your accounts are on Solana and controlled by your keys. Neo builds each transaction, and nothing leaves your accounts without your approval.

Fees and funding

Neo pays every network fees so you can hold only USDC and no SOL.

Spending and Savings

Keep a little in Spending for daily life and the rest in Savings, out of reach of anyone who steals your phone or against wrench attacks.

Spending works like a debit account. Pay or send money with your face, fingerprint or passcode.

Savings is instant for the things you do often:

  • moving money into Spending, up to a daily limit you set;
  • moving money between your own accounts, including your portfolios;
  • paying people you've saved as trusted.

Paying someone new is where theft happens, so it takes more. There are two ways to do it:

  • Confirm it on a second device that you keep away from your phone: a family member's phone, a printed QR code or a security key. This works up to a daily amount.
  • Wait. The payment waits 24 hours, 48 hours or 7 days (you choose the length). You get an alert and can cancel it during that time.

Saving a new trusted recipient or changing your security settings waits the same way.

So someone who steals your phone can take at most your Spending balance and one day's limit. Neither account has fees.

Investing

Pick a portfolio, add dollars, and Neo buys it and keeps it balanced.

What you own. Each portfolio is a set of US stocks and ETFs around a theme, like AI, robotics or cars, with a target weight for each (e.g. 60% S&P 500, 40% Nvidia).

How Neo manages it. Add dollars and Neo buys the stocks at their target weights. Over time some stocks grow faster than others, so Neo sells a little of what grew and buys what fell behind. You choose how often it does this.

What Neo is allowed to do. Each portfolio has its own onchain guardrail so Neo can only swap dollars and the portfolio's stocks. Nothing else.

Getting money out.

  • Withdraw any amount, anytime. Neo sells a little of each stock so the weights stay right, and you receive exactly what you asked for.
  • Cash out. Neo sells everything, sends the dollars to Spending, and its permission to trade ends.

Costs. Neo takes 0.2% of each trade it makes to buy or rebalance. Withdrawing and cashing out are free. A trade can fill up to 0.5% away from the quoted price. Anything worse is rejected.

Fixed holdings. Neo can adjust a portfolio's weights, but never which stocks it holds. A different set of stocks is a new portfolio, and you decide whether to join.
